This striking antique brass microscope is a fascinating piece, made in Germany in the late 19th century (circa 1890) by the optic material manufacturer Eduard Messter. The microscope remains in excellent condition and working order. It comes in its original wooden box. The microscope is entirely made of brass; the metal keeps the original transparent lacquered finsh which has maintained the metal in good condition and provides it with the delicate patina typical of these antique instruments. All the microscopes component parts and pieces move fluidly and enable a good operation. The horseshoe-shaped foot is made of brass too. The microscopes turret shows a riveted metal plate with the manufacturers name (Ed. Messter) and address. The instrument is accompanied by 3 eyepieces, 1 lens and some accessories. The box is made of solid light-colored mahogany wood and is in very good condition too. This antique Eduard Messter microscope will delight every lover of turn-of-the-century antiques. Messter started his business in 1859 and was soon quite acknowledged for the great quality of the lenses he made. In 1868 he also opened a shop in Friedrichstrasse, 99, to commercialize lenses and microscopes. In 1892 his son Oskar Messter took over the company. Oskar entered the movie business and founded Messter Films, one of the most important producers in Germany before the rise of the UFA, into which it was ultimately merged.
