Gorgeous German Carl Zeiss microscope with 4-lens revolving nosepiece, in very good condition and with a complete eyepiece and lens set. The microscope boasts the classic quality and precision typical of the optical instruments made by the prestigious German brand. It comes in its original storing case, a lovely solid-mahogany box with compartments for the accessories, and containing a press cutting with a newspaper article about The Proton Microscope. It is accompanied by 3 eyepieces and 4 lenses; one of these is a rare model made by the French manufacturer F. Lemardeley. The accessories are also in great condition and are the ideal complement for the device, making possible an optimal operation. The microscope mounts a horseshoe-shaped foot and a circular sample plate, both made of cast iron and with a fine black-enameled finish. The finish is very well preserved and looks shiny and even. The turret is made of brass and so are the focusing screws; the metal keeps the original transparent lacquer that protects and enhances its surface. The turret bears the engraved manufacturers logo and name, CARL ZEISS JENA, together with the serial number Nº85920. The storing case is a fine light-colored mahogany wooden box, in very good condition too. This box has fine dovetail joints, sturdy and delicate, and preserves the original metal handle and hooks. We can also see a small plate with the name of the shop or distributor where the microscope was once sold. This antique Carl Zeiss microscope is an amazing example of the quality scientific instruments made in Germany in the early 20th century. Today, it still preserves all its power of fascination and its functionality. Measurements: Width: 7 in / 18 cm. Height: 12 in / 33 cm.Carl Zeiss History Carl Zeiss is a leading German company which manufactures optic material, surveying and measurement equipment and medical devices. The company started in 1846 when the optician Carl Zeiss opened his first workshop in Jena, Germany. In 1847 he was already manufacturing microscopes full time. In 1861 Zeiss was considered one of the most important microscope makers in Germany; five years later, the workshop sold their 1000th microscope. In 1847 Ernst Abbe and Otto Schott entered the company and designed improved lenses for Zeiss instruments. Carl Zeiss died in 1888 but his company kept on and began to manufacture and sold other items such as cameras. Today, Zeiss is still active as part of three different corporations.
