Antique English Compound Microscope. England, Circa 1880

Fine English compound microscope more than one hundred years old, complete and in good condition. The microscope comes in its original storing case, made of mahogany wood and very well preserved too. It is made black-lacquered cast iron and mounts brass mobile component parts; the combination of both finishes makes up a charming and beautiful design, typical of late-19th-century scientific instruments. As well as for its attractiveness, this microscope is a very interesting piece for its good working order; it can still be used to watch samples. Inside the storing case there is also a spare eyepiece and an objective; together with the ones mounted on the microscope, it makes a four-piece set. As for the design, the instrument has a horseshoe-shaped foot, common in some antique microscopes. The matt black-lacquered finish that covers the iron is in good condition and shows almost no signs of wear. The brass preserves the transparent lacquered finish that protects its surface, and at the same time provides it with a glorious patina. Under the stage we can see the double-sided mirror bound to catch the light and cast it to the samples. It is an original, wonderfully preserved piece. The microscopes storing case is also a very interesting article. It is made of solid-mahogany wood and shows off a good condition. The wood surface is well preserved and boasts a lovely outside patina that turns this case into a gorgeous item. Inside, the case has different compartments to properly organize the microscope and its spare pieces. There are two small lids with their respective knobs, designed to close two of the compartments. We can also see a paper label, original from the time, with printed information about the magnifying power of the objectives.
