Wonderful antique English compound microscope, a charming instrument with a fine design that takes us back to turn-of-the-century scientific laboratories. The microscope was made in the UK in the late 19th century (circa 1880) and remains in amazing condition. It is complete and includes one lens and one eyepiece, both original from the time and greatly preserved. This microscope is in working order and can be used to watch samples and specimens. It is a truly evocative item, perfect to decorate a study or to become part of a good collection of antique scientific equipment. The microscope is entirely made of brass. The metal shows off a lean and polished surface, with no traces of rust or wear. Under the stage we can see the classic double-sided mirror (with concave and convex sides), an original component part too. On the other hand, the screws and the mechanism that make it possible to focus on the samples are in good working order and move fluidly and softly. The microscope is stored in its original case. This case is a sturdy solid-mahogany wooden box; this wood was commonly used to manufacture storing cases and boxes for turn-of-the-century scientific instruments. Mahogany wood withstands moisture and is harder than most of the other species. Moreover, its reddish color and fine veneer turn it into one of the most beautiful wooden species. This microscopes case shows signs of use and of the trace of time, but is nonetheless complete and looks solid. It has artisanal dovetail joints and preserves the original metal handle. As beautiful as interesting, this antique English compound microscope will shine in the collection of a lover of scientific antiques with more than one hundred years of history behind.
