Antique English compound microscope made in the late 19th century (circa 1880) and in very good condition. This scientific-use instrument comes in its original storing box, made of mahogany wood and also wonderfully preserved. The microscope is in working order, and it can be used to watch some of the old-time samples stored into the case. The accessory set includes an eyepiece and an objective, as well as a live box (a cylindrical capsule with glass lid that makes it possible to watch live specimens). In general, this is a complete article with a remarkable interest for collectors or museums. The microscope mounts a black-lacquered cast-iron base, sturdy and stable. Over the base stands the complex mechanism composed of the turret, the focusing knobs, the stage with the clips and double-sided mirror. All these component parts are made of brass and are greatly preserved n too; the metal preserves the original transparent lacquered finish that has kept it in such good condition through the decades. The knobs move fluidly and allow an excellent operation. The whole item stands on a solid mahogany wooden plank that acts as a base and provides a nice contrast with the metal device. The microscopes storing case is also made of solid mahogany wood. Its wonderful condition is really remarkable; though showing the patina created by the trace of time and use, the wood reveals itself in all its glory. The brass handle and the lock (with the original key) are also very well preserved. Inside the case, under the compartment where the microscope and the accessories are stored we can see a drawer with a small metal knob. It contains a series of old-time samples on glass plates; they surely are the perfect complement for this antique English compound microscope. Functional and gorgeous, this antique English compound microscope will arouse the admiration of every lover of science-related ancient devices. Measurements: Height: 14.6 in / 37 cm.
