Rare antique microscope in very good condition, in its original storing case. This device dates from the early 20th century (circa 1900), and as well as being so well preserved it is also in fine working order. Its rare design is especially attractive: the combination of materials and finishes, the curious wavy shape of the arm that connects the foot to the turret and the mobile component parts and screws scattered all over the microscope create a very singular piece, with an evocative look and a great decorative potential. The microscope comes with an objective and an eyepiece, now mounted in the device itself. The magnification lens attached to the turret is a remarkable element as it is unusual in this type of articles. The lens preserves the original glass, mounted in a black-lacquered circular iron frame and connected to the turret by an articulated arm made of the same material. This disposition makes it possible to focus the light to the samples in a comfortable and efficient way. On the other hand, the foot with the stage is also made of black-enameled cast iron and so is the arm that connects it to the turret. This piece and the rest of the mobile component parts are made of brass and preserve the original protecting lacquer which provides the metal with a warm and attractive shade. The storing case is a simple and solid light-colored-mahogany box in very good condition. The wood shows no cracks or broken parts; outside, the case looks regular and even and shows only some slight signs of the trace of time and use. The metal shutting hooks and hinges are original from the time too. Inside, the case has a small wooden compartment to store samples and includes some velvet-covered wooden pieces that keep the microscope in place without scratching the metal surfaces. Its rare and lovely design is the most remarkable feature of this rare antique microscope, a piece worth of inclusion in any collection of turn-of-the-century scientific instruments.
