Sober and fine antique Henry Crouch microscope, coming from England and dated circa 1920. This is a fully original article, in really good condition and fine working order. The microscope mounts an objective and includes two interchangeable eyepieces. It comes in its original solid wooden case, well preserved and perfect to store and carry the device. The microscopes food is made of black-enameled cast iron, and is sturdy and stable. It is connected to the top part by a brass screw. The rest of the component parts are located at the top and are also made of brass, all of them protected by the original transparent lacquered finish. At the back of the microscopes foot we can see the manufacturers name, HENRY CROUCH LONDON, engraved on the black surface. Under this name lays the articles serial number, 9015. The design of this particular model is quite attractive, both for its simplicity and its functionality. The case there the microscope is stored is made of light-colored mahogany wood, solid and resistant. It preserves the original hinges and handle. The case is complete and shows no cracks or fissures, though the outside surface shows clear signs of the trace of time and use. This feature provides it with charm and authenticity; nevertheless, the case could be easily restored by a professional and regain all its old-time glory. Inside the door, a small riveted metal plate indicates the name of the shop where the microscope was sold decades ago. This outstanding antique Henry Crouch microscope is an impecable example of the high-quality scientific devices from the early 20th century. Measurements: 13 in / 33 cm.Crouch Microscopes - History Henry Crouch was an optic material and microscope maker who founded his own company in London, England after working as an apprentice with Smith, Beck & Bech. Crouch opened his business en 1862 together with his younger brother, William. The first H &W Crouch shop was located in Regents Canal Dock, Commercial Road. The Crouch brothers started making copies of Smith, Beck & Beck microscopes, but soon they were producing their own affordable high-quality instruments for students and middle-class scientists. One of their most admired products was Crouchs binocular microscope. The Crouch brothers dissolved their partnership in 1866; Henry took over the company and this flourished year after year. In 1907 the firm was acquired by S. Maw, Son & Sons; Crouch kept on working practically until his death, which took place in 1916.
