Fascinating antique English compound microscope made circa 1890, very well preserved and in fine working order. This attractive device from the late 19th century has survived to our days in excellent condition. All its component parts and pieces are original and remain in good operation. The focus rack located at the back of the microscope is slightly damaged at its bottom part, but this does not affect the devices performance (as it is unusual to reach this part when focusing the image). Aesthetically, this detail is scarcely visible and does not interfere with the articles beauty. The microscope boasts a very special design; its turret is slightly thicker than usual. The microscopes foot is composed of a set of cast-iron pieces, all bearing a matt black-enameled finish. This finish is in very good condition and together with the shiny brass parts makes up a fine set. The brass preserves the antique transparent protecting lacquer, a finish that was usually applied in order to prevent rust and scratches. The microscope comes with an eyepiece and a lens in its brass sleeve. It stands on a square mahogany wooden base, in good condition and with a lovely satin finish. The case designed to store the microscope and its accessories is also made of mahogany wood, just like the devices base. It is in amazing condition, with scarcely any sign of wear or scratches. The corners show off fine and delicate handmade dovetail joints. The carrying handle is original too. Inside the case, a series of wooden parts help to keep the microscope stable when carried. There is also a small drawer with a brass knob attached to the top of the case; it is bound to store sample plates, cleaning tools, tweezers etc. Those fans of collecting old-time scientific pieces will appreciate the beauty of this antique English compound microscope, as authentic as well preserved.
