Wonderful antique German Ed. Messter microscope made circa 1910, in amazing condition and very good working order. This instrument was made by the Optisches und Mechanisches Institut Ed. Messter, owned by Eduard Messter. Eduard was the father of Oskar Messter, considered today the founder of the German cinematographic industry. In fact, Oskar started his career performing experiments and developing his inventions in his fathers factory. But this microscope is a fascinating item not just for its history, but also for its magnificent look and working order. The gorgeous instrument comes in its original light-colored solid mahogany wooden box and comes with a set containing three eyepieces and three objectives. The objectives are mounted in the microscopes three-lens revolving nosepiece. The item has a black-enameled metal foot and brass top part. Both the enameled finish and the brass are finely preserved and show no visible traces of wear. The mobile component parts (rack-and-pinion, adjusting screws, etc.) move fluidly and softly, turning the microscopes operation into a real pleasure for the collector. Moreover, the rack-and-pinion system than makes it possible for the turret to go up and down is in excellent condition too. At the top of the brass turret we can see a metal plate with the engraved manufacturers name, ED. MESSTER BERLIN. Under this plate, the serial number No, 37481 is directly marked in the turret. The rest of the microscopes component parts are equally well preserved: the shutter works fine and the double-sided mirror located under the stage is original from the time and remains in optimal condition too. The storing case bears a riveted metal plate with the engraved manufacturers name and city. Its soft and accurate operation and its turn-of-the-century look turn this antique German Ed. Messter microscope into a piece worthy of a museum of science and technology. Measurements: Width: 6.4 in / 16 mm. Height: 13.6 in / 35 mm.
