Fantastic Antique Carl Zeiss Microscope. Germany, Circa 1930

Gorgeous antique Carl Zeiss microscope made in Germany circa 1939, in very good condition and excellent working order. It comes in its original solid-wooden case, with a perfectly functional lock and the original key adorned with the Z of Zeiss. The microscope mounts a lean metal horseshoe foot and black-enameled lower part in amazing condition. The brass turret is also greatly preserved, with no traces of wear and preserving the original transparent patina. At the front we can see the brand logo with the serial number 62900. The turret mounts a three-lens nosepiece with the engraved logo and rack-and-pinion system in perfect condition which enables a soft and accurate operation. The microscope includes 3 eyepieces and 4 objectives, all of them signed by Zeiss and original from the time. Three of the objectives are made of silvery metal, as in those time these pieces started being made of this metal instead of brass. The light-colored mahogany wooden case is also in good condition and has inner compartments for the eyepieces and objectives.

For its quality, the prestige of its maker and its great condition, this antique Carl Zeiss microscope is bound to belong to a collector with real passion for ancient devices.

Carl Zeiss – History

Carl Zeiss is a leading German company which manufactures optic material, surveying and measurement equipment and medical devices. The company started in 1846 when the optician Carl Zeiss opened his first workshop in Jena, Germany. In 1847 he was already manufacturing microscopes full time. In 1861 Zeiss was considered one of the most important microscope makers in Germany; five years later, the workshop sold their 1000th microscope. In 1847 Ernst Abbe and Otto Schott entered the company and designed improved lenses for Zeiss instruments. Carl Zeiss died in 1888 but his company kept on and began to manufacture and sold other items such as cameras. Today, Zeiss is still active as part of three different corporations.
