Amazing German microscope from the early 20th century, in its original wooden box and with all its accessories. This scientific surveying instrument was made by R. Winkel in 1920, and is in excellent condition and perfect working order. The wooden box is also wonderfully preserved, and keeps the original lock and key. This box has different compartments to store eye-pieces and lenses, and a small case with samples on glass plates. The microscope itself is in great condition. The black lacquered metal looks shiny, with almost no signs of use in spite of its ancient age. The same applies to the polished brass parts, which keep their gloss and color as if time had not passed for them. All the parts work and move fluidly and softly. The turret bears the logo with the name and location of the manufacturing firm: WIKEL-GÖTTINGEN, and also the serial number: Nr. 25085. The small case that accompanies the microscope is covered by dark red leather and bears a golden inscription: E. Leitz Wetzlar, the name of a prestigious optical material manufacturer. The first R. Winkel microscopes were made in 1857, when Rudolf Winkel opened a mechanical workshop in order to manufacture this kind of items. His son entered the business a few years after. In 1911, famous optical material manufacturer Carl Zeiss became the principal shareholder of the R. Winkel company, and in 1928 the logo of the former R. Winkel GmbH became "Winkel-Zeiss / Göttingen. This particular microscope was made in the early days of the company, and is a great example of surveying devices from the beginning of the 20th century. This is surely an exceptional item, worth of the most demanding lover of antiques. Measurements: Width: 270 mm. Height: 370 mm.
