Smart German microscope from the early 20th century, made by prestigious optic material manufacturer E. Leitz Wetlzar. This nice instrument comes in its original wooden case and keeps also various accessories. The microscope is in good condition and works perfectly, letting the user watch samples like the first day. It has a three-lens revolving nosepiece; all the lenses are engraved with the logo of the manufacturing brand and the magnification number. The article also has an eyepiece in the turret and three more extra ones, all of them stored in their corresponding wooden stand inside the case. The microscope is made of soft and shiny black-lacquered iron, golden brass and silvery metal. The brass pieces show slight signs of wear due to the trace of time, but they work perfectly; the patina of time provides the instrument with charm and personality. The microscope keeps all its original parts in good condition: the oscillating mirror, the stage with the clips, the diaphragm and the focus. At the front of the turret we can see an inscription with the manufacturers name and the serial number 178707 engraved in the metal. The article comes with some accessories, all of them well kept in their cases and wooden stand that fit into their corresponding compartments inside the box. There is a stand with three eyepieces, a faux leather covered box for the lenses and a box with sliding lid that contains glass plates for the samples and accessories to prepare them. The case that stores the microscope and the accessories is made of light-colored solid wood, with nice veneer and delicate dovetail joints which assemble the pieces. It also keeps the original lock and metal handle. The company that made this microscope, E. Leitz Wetzlar, was founded in 1849 by Karl Kellner in Wetzlar (Germany). In the beginning it manufactured mainly telescopes and was called Optical Institute of Wetlzar. When the firm started producing microscopes, Kellner hired engineer Ernst Leitz, who soon became a partner. In 1869 Leitz acquired the company and named it Ernst Leitz Optical Institute. The brand became one of the most important optical manufacturers in the world and many of its models are still produced nowadays. This beautiful microscope is a good example of E. Leitz Wetzlar instruments quality. It is surely a striking piece for any nostalgic lover of scientific instruments from the early 20th century.Measurements: Width: 145 mm. Height: 340 mm.
