Great Working Antique Music Box in Wonderful Condition. Switzerland, 1880-90

This big music box made of ebony-finished wood and artisanal marquetry is an exclusive piece, made in Switzerland in the late 19th century (1880-90). The box is extremely remarkable because of its big size (50 cm long) and great beauty. It is made of solid wood and keeps the original mechanism that has been cleaned and fine-tuned to guarantee a perfect working order. The mechanism can play 8 complete tunes, providing a clear and charming sound. The box itself boasts a lovely ebony-like finish with a deep black color, full-bodied and with an exceptional shine. All the wooden parts have been carefully restored so they keep the designs original quality. The lid is especially remarkable for its marquetry decoration: it depicts a romantic bouquet in the center, made of a combination of light and colored pieces of wood. There is also a rectangular frame composed of lines of different thicknesses. The whole piece is protected by a warm French-polish finish that enhances its beauty. It we lift the lid, inside the box we will find the mechanism protected by a glass and wood cover. It contains the original cylinder with the tunes and the silvery metal comb. The comb maintains all the teeth, a feature that lets the box play the complete tunes. The box is inside finished by a lovely shiny black lacquer that matches the outside.
