Lovely Ariston 24 note organ with 5 discs. Circa 1880's. Quadrangular case in ebonized wood, lacquered and decorated on the corners with beautiful vegetal forms that are repeated on the front. The device has a side crank to operate the mechanism and original comb. The unit is in perfect condition, has been serviced and is ready to listen to any of the 4 original records attached ("My queen Waltz", "La Pattuglia Turca", "See me dance", "Sourire d'l Avril" and "Bedelia"). By turning the crank handle, the machinery starts to operate, which, by turning, makes the comb pins emit sound when in contact with the different holes of the record. Fantastic device in fantastic condition. Sounds loud and loud. The bellows are perfect. The Ariston is the trademark for a pneumatic crank organillo with free reeds. Paul Ehrlich started manufacturing in Leipzig in 1877 a type of small barrel organ called Orchestrionette and, a few years later, he would create another model (Ariston) for the domestic environment that worked with perforated cardboard discs, which would soon become very popular. In 1887 is when he patented this fantastic device for the whole world, that only the success of devices such as the Polyphon or the Phonograph, would put an end to the fruitful reign of its manufacturer. It is an organ type instrument, with bellows and windchest or box to store the air, equipped with a crank that sets in motion two functions: to blow air into the windchest with the bellows and to rotate a mechanism that, each time it passed through the perforations made in a cardboard disc that was fixed on the cabinet, lifted the keys of the windchest so that the air made the free reeds sound. Precious piece for the discerning collector that makes you dream with every note.
