Precious Music Box with Six Melodies. 1890-1900. Elegant rectangular wooden box with a clear contrast of grain decorated on the lid with a beautiful drawing of a flower in marquetry of lemongrass. The sides of the box are decorated with a thin line of lemongrass wood that runs along its entire contour. It has small marks of use, but the upper area is in perfect condition. The original 43-note comb machinery of this piece is operated by a crank located on one side. The machinery is in perfect condition, works without problems, and its six melodies can be heard from the first day. This model has on the inner sides two small and decorative levers that allow to start and stop the melody, as well as to repeat it if desired. Music boxes as an object in itself, can be said to have its birth in the eighteenth century, but not consolidated as "object for listening to music" until the nineteenth century. They arise from an important and well-known Swiss industry that would start making watches, but later would develop the first music boxes from which different and innovative pieces would be carried out around the world. Beautiful piece perfect for nostalgic people. Weight: approximately 5.5 kilograms. Measures: 37 x 24 x 16 cm.
