Antique Music Box with Swallows Automatons. Switzerland, XIX Century. 10 Melodies

Awesome antique music box with automaton nightingales, manufactured in Switzerland in the 19th century and in excellent working order. The box is gorgeous outside and inside, with a lovely wooden finish outside and a great black lacquered inside. The metal movement stands out on the shiny black background and so do the delicate and colorful metal birds. The music box keeps all its original component parts and pieces except for the paper sheet with the tune list and the dustcap. Anyway, these details do not interfere at all with its fine design or its great working order. The box itself is made of solid beech wood with a beautiful golden color and a delicately pronounced veneer. It is made up of lean planks with no decoration at all except for the two light-colored wooden marquetry rectangles that embellish the lid. It stands on four small black-lacquered wooden legs; this black finish also covers the lids beveled edge and the inside of the box. The contrast between the light and clear wood and the profound black lacquer makes up a really attractive piece. All the finishes have been carefully restored so today the music box shows off a striking look. If the box itself is gorgeous, so is its delicate movement. It is made up of brass gears and silvery pieces; it preserves the original comb with all its teeth and the tune cylinder in perfect condition. We can also see the three small automaton nightingales, painted in fine colors and moving towards three bells in order to hit them with their becks. It is a charming and outstanding set that combines the precision and quality of Swiss manufacturing with the beauty of a state-of-art design.
