Wonderful antique disc-playing music box made in Switzerland in 1890. This article stands put for its fine aesthetic, magnificent sound and excellent working order. Though it is more than one century old, the box remains in amazing condition and preserves all its inherent beauty. It comes with thirty-four original metal discs that make it possible to enjoy its delicate and neat sound. The box itself is made of solid-walnut wood with a lovely golden-brown color and a contrasting veneer. The wood bears a fine original French-polish finish that has been restored to regain its satin glow. Outside the box is decorated with a series of brass details that increase the aesthetic interest of this great piece. The lid has four corner details and a central one; the front side has a brass detail embellishing the keyhole and there are two more on both sides. These brass details are composed of fine volutes; the ones attached to the lid show music allegories engraved in the center. If we lift the lid, inside we will find a remarkable reproduction of an Alpine lake landscape framed with a brass molding. At the left bottom corner of the illustration there is a signature reading Lombers & Cie Lepizig. The mechanism hidden inside the box stands out for its precision and delicate making. It mounts a double-comb system; both combs are well preserved and have no tooth missing. In order to use the music box, a metal disc must be put inside fitting the mechanisms rods in its central hole. Then the user will put the foldable brass rod on top of the disc: the music box is ready to play!
