Lovely German wooden music box made in 1880. This antique piece is in very good condition and works well. It can play 24,5 cm disks. It is a Polyphon Nº 71G music box, and if we lift the cover we can read the brands name written in an elegant calligraphy. The mechanism that plays the tunes has six bells, and the music box comes with an original vintage metal disk that can be played in the box. The box is made of solid oak wood, with a nice light tone and a deep regular veneer. It has almost no outside decoration, but its design is very elegant and the wood is in perfect condition. The covers edges are painted black and its inner side is decorated with a varnish which simulates mahogany wood. On this finish we can see the brands name, Polyphon, written in beige. The box keeps the original lock and key, as well as the knob and the lever which operates it. All these parts are made of brass, and their design is simple and very decorative. The mechanism that plays the tunes is in perfect condition and works like new. On the right side we can see an embossed inscription: POLYPHON Nº71G. The metal letters are painted in a deep red color. Polyphon Musikwerke company was founded in Leipzing by Gustave Brachhausem, the foreman of Symphonion music box company, in partnership with Symphonion engineer Paul Riessner. This particular model (known as Regina music box) plays metal disks instead of cylinders, used by older music boxes. This piece has survived to our days in excellent condition, as beautiful as new, and is a charming vintage item fit to decorate the most elegant room. Measurements: Width: 365 mm.
