Fine black-lacquered wooden music box, in very good working condition and full of undeniable charm. This box was made in Swiss in 1880, and it was manufactured for the English market. The box keeps its original mechanism and works perfectly, being able to play no less than 10 tunes. It has three nice metal butterflies which hit the bells to play the melodies. The box is complete and has all its original parts, except for one of the tongues; this missing piece, however, is no obstacle for the box to play the tunes. Outside the box has a nice polished black finish. It keeps the original lock and keyhole, and the lacquer is in very good condition. Inside, the cover is painted red and there is a fine paper label attached to it, with a list of the titles of the tunes the box can play. This label is decorated with colorful romantic etchings, very popular in the late 19th century. Inside, the box is also painted black and has a wooden and glass lid which lets us see the mechanism. The three automat butterflies which play the tunes are beautiful and realistic. They are made of polished brass and keep some remains of red paint. Crowning the bells we can see three brass pieces which simulate flowers, painted green and red. In front of this mechanism, on the left side we can see a metal and red enamel indicator, with a small arrow that points the tune the box is playing in a scale from one to ten. This music box is a real collectors item. Measurements: Width: 460 mm. Height: 470 mm (open).
