German Symphonion music box made in 1890. In spite of its ancient age, this article has survived to our days in perfect working order. The box can perfectly reproduce metal disks, providing a clear a neat sound. The mechanism has a double comb: both combs keep all their tongs. All the components are original and work perfectly. The box boast a square and simple design, typical of this kind of models, and it is quite sober outside with its deep black lacquered finish. The piece comes with a lot of original metal disks that can be reproduced in order to listen to different tunes.The black lacquer which covers the box is in quite good condition. At the beginning, the lid was adorned with some stickers making up a nice decoration that has almost disappeared over time. If we look at it closely we can still distinguish the remains of this ancient decoration. Nevertheless the box has still an attractive and elegant look which turns it into a decorative and functional item. If we open the lid, inside we will discover a nice paper label with the name of the brand, a description of the music box and a recommendation for use. The text is written in three different languages: English, German and French. The text is embellished with charming romantic illustrations framing it, all of them related to music and painted in soft colors.The mechanism that gives life to this beautiful antique is in striking condition. It has been revised and adjusted so it can work perfectly and reproduce the tunes of the metal disk that come with the box, providing the same quality of sound as when it was made. Symphony Musikwerke company was established in 1887 in Leipzig, Germany, and its founder was Paul Lochmann. The brand became a world leader in the manufacturing of music boxes, and afterwards it started to produce also gramophones, piano players and other reproducers.
