Solid silver box with automaton bird. Germany, 1930's. Working

Wonderful solid silver box (925 silver) with automaton bird made in Germany in the 1930s. When wound up, the lid opens and the bird comes out cheeping and flapping its wings. The box is unbeatably beautiful and its whole surface is made of hand-engraved silver decorated Solid Silver Box with Automaton Bird. Germany, 1930s. With Original Winding Key and in Working Order with modernist motives. It is very well preserved, showing no bumps or scratches and as shiny and polished as new. The automaton bird is also in working order though the mechanism needs some cleaning and the bird could be slightly restored. The box keeps the original key designed to wind it up and make the automaton work.Automatons and mechanical toys from the early 20th century are charming and lovely articles, and this box is especially attractive as it is made of first-quality solid silver. The motives that decorate the top depict three angels surrounded by adorns and volutes. The central lid that opens in order to let the bird out has an engraved image of an angel with a bird in his hand. On both sides there are two more angels playing musical instruments. The boxs sides are embellished with similar scenes, as well as peacocks and musical instruments.The whole silver surface is decorated with embossed and engraved motives. The most original feature of this box is undoubtedly the presence of the automaton bird. The bird is covered by real feathers of a bright red color, and is brought to life by a pair of yellow eyes and a realistic beck.
