This interesting item is a wooden German case containing a great collection of optical lenses of different kinds. The case dates from 1900 and it's almost complete: as well as the lenses, the case also contains a metal frame designed to hold them, a magnifying glass and a ruler. The case is quite big and contains an important number of glasses, being a highly interesting piece for any eye care professional and for the lovers of scientific antiques. It is made of solid mahogany-dyed oak wood. The lenses can be perfectly organized into the case. Inside it is compartmented and divided in six regularly disposed sections. The different kind of lenses that can be stored in each section are conveniently labeled with small white plates, printed in black lettering and nailed to the wood. The inscriptions are German and indicate the corresponding type of glasses: Concav (concave), Convex, Cilindrisch (cylindrical) The plates are in perfect condition and no one is missing. On the other hand, every lens bears a nickel-plated ring that frames it; the ring is connected to a metal flap with the corresponding magnification number. These numbers are also printed in different vertical plates located in the middle of each section. The numbers indicate the place for each lens so they can be stored in perfect order. Thanks to this system, the optician could just take the desired lens in each occasion. As stated before, the set includes a metal frame designed to hold the lenses when tested with the patient; a plastic ruler with various scales, and a magnifying mirror made of the same material. This amazing lens case from the early 20th century is the perfect item to adorn a professional opticians study or to complete the most demanding experts collection.Measurements: Width: 315 mm.
