Great sextant in good condition, working perfectly and in its original wooden case. This is a very popular model because of its quality and precision: a Hezzanith sextant made in London by Heath & Co. in 1944. The instrument keeps all its component parts, lenses and filters. It has a rectangular wooden piece with curved ends that is screwed to the instrument: a triangular three-ring-frame design sextant made of black iron, with brass telescope and quarter circle scale. At the sextants base we can see a metal plate with the models name and a description of the mechanism: HEZZANITH ENDLESS TANGENT SCREW -AUTOMATIC CLAMP PATENT. There is also a Latin inscription, SEMPER PARATUS (always ready).Hezzanith sextants are some of the most famous products manufactured by London Heath & Co. Company, founded by Thomas Heath in 1820 to made and commercialize scientific instruments. In 1845 Thomas Heath II tooh the helm and the changed its name to Heath & Co., continuing in business until the mid 20th century. The three-ring-frame design Hezzanith sextant is probably the most numerous ever produced.This particular instrument is in good condition. The rest of the component parts (filters, viewers, lenses) are in optimal condition. The solid mahogany case designed to store the sextant is also well preserved and keeps the original handle and shutting hooks. Inside we can see a certificate of examination with the instruments printed serial number, L.548, the manufacturers name, the magnifying power of the telescope (3) and the date: 19th May, 1944.This sextants great quality and attractive look will surely draw the attention of any lover or collector of ship antiques.
