This attractive item is a set of lenses for optical use that comes from England and was made in the first third of the 20th century. It is a beautiful and very interesting piece. The set is complete and no one is missing; they are all original and in perfect condition. Indeed, they can be used to measure the diopters just like new. The lenses come in their original wooden case, also greatly preserved both inside and outside. The lenses are organized in perfectly classified compartments. Inside the box we can see a series of white plates with clear black letters and numbers that indicate the kind of lens that is stored in each groove and their magnification number. At the front of the case we can see two plates with the words SPHERICAL and CYLINDRICAL, while at the rear rest four more with the repeated and alternate inscriptions CONCAVE and CONVEX. The lenses are organized in four grooved compartments; between each two compartment we can see a vertical white plate with the magnification number of each pair of lenses. The lenses are framed by a silvery metal ring with a metal flap that bears the engraved magnification number. On the other hand, the box is also in great condition: the wood boasts the lovely golden reddish color of light mahogany wood, and at the top of the lid we can see its typical nice flame-shaped veneer. Inside the lid is covered by blue moiré silk, a pretty lining in strikingly good condition. The lock and the hinges are also original, and both the case and the set of lenses have survived to our days wonderfully preserved. This set of lenses from the early 20th century is a great piece to adorn an opticians workplace. It will shine in a showcase with antiques related to the profession.Measurements: Width: 25,5 cm/10 in. Depth: 23 cm/9 in.
