This attractive optical trial lens set in its original wooden case comes from Germany and was made in the 1920s. It is a rare and curious antique with almost all its original components and in very good condition. The set preserves nearly all the lenses and comes with two spectacle frames; one is older and simpler, and the other one has a micrometrical adjustment. They are both singularly attractive and turn this set into a very special piece. The wooden case preserves the original shutting devices and ite has a key. The case is made of solid light mahogany wood with nice dovetail joints at the corners. The wood is greatly preserved and shows off the warm beauty provided by its lovely golden reddish color. Attached to the lid we can see a metal plate with an engraved inscription in an elegant calligraphy: Nicolaus Buchner Optiker - München, indicating that the set once belonged to an optician that worked in Munich. Inside the case is covered by purple satin, being the fabric in very good condition; the case itself is separated by wooden pieces that create compartments and grooves, designed to properly store the lenses and the frames. The lenses are placed in pairs and bear their corresponding graduation embossed in the metal plates wielded to their circular frames. Every type of lenses is labeled with a metal plate with the description: concave, convex, cylindrical, spherical. The spectacle frames are located inside their corresponding box, at the front of the case. This box is also covered of purple satin and looks great. This striking optical trial lens set is designed to embellish an elegant workplace or to become part of a good collection of curious antiques. Measurements: Width: 20 in/51 cm. Depth: 12.5 in/32 cm.
