Amazing English sky telescope made circa 1880 and in good condition. The telescope is made of golden brass and preserves the original wooden tripod. It comes in its original storing box and is wonderfully preserved: it can be used to watch the sky and the landscape, as well as to decorate any room. The telescope reveals a warm and stately beauty and is perfect to embellish a noble living room or a classy study. At the end of the main drum or body we can see the engraved manufacturers name: ARMSTRONG STEVENS & CO. - BIRMINGHAM. Founded in 1835, it was a public company that eventually employed 300 people. In 1920 it was acquired by Sheffield Steel Products and became a private company, but in 1936 it was turned into a public firm again under the name Armstrong, Stevens & Son Ltd. The telescope preserves all its original component parts except the piece that connets the telescope and the tripod, that seem to be an old reparation. The tripod on which it is mounted is also an antique piece, made of golden oak solid wood and with the original finish. It is quite well preserved and shows no broken or worn parts. The instrument comes with a leather strap, intended to keep the tripods legs gathered together when it is not in use. Once mounted, the telescope and tripod set is spectacular because of its size, its style and its wonderful design. This striking sky telescopes beauty and elegance can only be equated with its good working order and its ancient age. Measurements: Width: 56 in / 144 cm. Height: 52 in / 133 cm.
