This beautiful sextant, made in the beginning of the 20th century, keeps all its pieces, telescopes and gears and is in good condition and perfect working order. It comes into its original mahogany box, made with fine dovetail joints which enhance its beauty. The box also has its original brass handle and shutting hooks, and the lock and key. The mahogany wood is in good condition, with only slights signs of wear which can be easily restored. It shows a nice reddish color and the typical veneer of this noble wood. The sextant was made by Hezzanith brand, name used by Heath & Co., a firm founded in 1845 which developed interesting innovations in the field of nautical surveying instruments. In the sextant there is a plate with an embossed inscription, showing the brand and the following: ENDLESS TANGENT SCREW AUTHOMATIC CLAMP PATENT. The tangent screw with quick release mechanism was developed for sextants by Hezzanith in 1909. The plate with the inscriptions is located in the lower part of the iron body. This instrument also has the classical moving part, made of black iron, and the arc with a scale and an inscription: S. M. LONDON S.E.D SOUTH SHIELDS. The sextant keeps all its glass filters, which fan out; the mahogany handle (beautifully varnished), and the telescopes with their lenses and eyepieces. This sextant is in good condition in spite of the pitting of the metal, which is part of its antique charm. The case is also well preserved; the noble wood it is made of and the fact that it keeps all its original parts and metal fittings, are all details that enhance its beauty. Ii is undoubtedly a nice testimony of the era, as authentic as precise, which will delight all the lovers of classic nautical antiques. Measurements: 250 mm width x 250 mm height.
