Original and antique German trench telescope made in 1890. It is a historical piece, full of beauty and vintage charm. This apparatus was made by German Carl Zeiss Jena brand, which is among the most renowned of the lens manufacturers. The company was founded in Jena in 1856. It produced microscopes and the refractometer, an optical instrument to measure the index of refraction of optical glass, developed by Carl Zeiss' partner Ernst Abbe. After Carl Zeiss' death in 1888 Abbe founded the Zeiss Foundation and built up its photographic optics branch. This telescope is really rare and is in excellent working order. It comes with a height-adjustable metal tripod. The telescope keeps all its original components and works very well. It seems to be for civilian use. We can see an engraved inscription in one of the silvery metal parts which hold the eyepieces and the objectives: Relief FernHorn. We can also read the objectives magnification: 10x. The eyepieces are made of black baquelite and the rest of the components are made of silvery metal and polished brass. This singular item has more special features, such as the plaited leather strap designed to hang the instrument from the neck when it is separated from the tripod. On the other side, the tripod is completely made of polished brass and is in very good condition. The different parts of the legs slide softly so we can easily adjust the height of the instrument. In essence, this magnificent trench telescope is a first class antique, and it is a really exceptional piece worth of belonging to the most demanding collector. Measurements: 1450 mm width (maximum height of the tripod with the telescope on top of it).
