Important antique magic lantern made in England by Stroud & Rendells in the early 20th century (circa 1900). Surely, the big size and charming look of this original device are its most remarkable features. The lantern is in very good condition and is a decorative piece; for its size and beauty, it will stand out in any place. One of the two lenses (both quite big) is loose and shows a small dent at the edge, but this detail does not seem to interfere with the lens performance. These lenses are located into the central wooden box. The case is fully made of solid mahogany wood, with two longitudinal oak wooden pieces under it. The mahogany shows a wonderful appearance; it looks magnificent and preserves the original French-polish finish. The material mixes lighter and darker shades in the different pieces. Screwed to one of the wooden side panels there is a white plate with the engraved manufacturers name, STROUD & RENDELLS, and the one of the shop where the magic lantern was sold, REYNOLDS & BRANSON Ltd. The name of the city where the business was located, Leeds, is also engraved on the plate. At the back of the device we can see an ample black iron deposit designed to host the light. In the early times, oil or alcohol lamps were used (hence the top chimney), but this particular magic lantern includes an electric light system in working order. The bulb support is original from ICA, although the bulb itself is undoubtedly modern. The wiring is in good condition and the bulb is working well. The central part of the item is a wooden box with a side door and screw; when this screw is turned, the inside mirror goes down and reflects the light coming from the back. Then, the light goes to the top lens. The magic lanterns front part is composed of several brass component parts, in good condition and preserving the original transparent lacquer. The magic lantern has not been tested for lack of adequate slides. For its imposing presence and turn-of-the-century design, this antique magic lantern is an exclusive piece that takes us back to the early days of photography. Measurements: Length: 85 cm.
