The device consists on an ingenious drawing system designed to draw objects from nature. It was invented in the early 19th century by William H Wollaston. This particular camera lucida is very well preserved; engraved in the clamp designed to attach it to the table or drawing board we can see the inscription CHAMBRE CLAIRE UNIVERSELLE MODELE DEPOSE.
