Fascinating mechanical Simmance-Abady Flicker photometer made in England in the early 20th century (circa 1900). This device was used to measure the light intensity by comparing the luminosity or brightness of two different sources of light. All the items component parts and pieces are original from the time (except the stand) and remain in good working order. The photometer is in good condition though the metal parts show some signs of wear due to the use and its ancient age. Nevertheless, the mechanism still works fine. The metal foot is no original but it is surely a perfect accessory to exhibit the photometer on a shelf, in a showcase or as part of a collection. The instrument that we can see in the photographs is probably quite an ancient version as it has a very low serial number (833) and does not mount the graduated scales that we can see in later models. In spite of its old age, the winding mechanism and the speed regulator are in good working order too. Ideal to complete a good collection of mechanical or photographic pieces, this antique Simmance-Abady flicker photometer will stand out for its simple design and good condition.Measurements: Height: 5.90 in / 15 cm.
