Beautiful Antique brass telescope signed by Charles Avizard, made in Paris, France and dated circa 1880. This is a well-preserved nautical device with the original lenses in quite good condition. The telescope can still be used but overall it shows off a remarkable decorative power. It mounts five brass bodies or drums; the metal is somewhat worn but the drums still slide well. The original leather covering that protects the main body is slightly eroded around the seam, but is otherwise in good condition. At the eyepiece end we can see the inscription C. Avizard Paris hand-engraved in an elegant cursive lettering. It stands for Charles Avizard, an optic material manufacturer that together with his brother René, purchased the Maison de lIngénieur Chevallier in 1883. This antique brass telescope signed by Charles Avizard preserves all the charm of ship antiques made in the late 19th century. Its great working order and the gorgeous patina it has acquired over the decades make up an exclusive and very special item. Measurements: Unfolded: 18.5 in / 47 cm. Folded: 6.3 in / 16 cm.
