Soviet Marine Sextant. USSR, Circa 1960
Authentic vintage Soviet sextant, made in the USSR circa 1960 and in fine aesthetic and use condition. This navigation instrument is original from the time and comes in its wooden box, with a complete set of filters and accessories. The sextant is made of black metal and preserves all its mobile parts and filters, all of them in good condition and perfect working order. The alidade bears the engraved brand and model: BMC – 338. These data can also be seen at the plate riveted to the box, together with serial number 1481. The metal’s matt black finish is finely preserved, and so is the ivory-white paint which enhances the scale. The wooden storing box is sturdy and strong; its mahogany-colored finish is somewhat worn but still fulfills its protecting duty. The box preserves the metalwork for the carrying strap and the original metal locks.
Functional and attractive, this vintage Soviet sextant deserves to be added to a good collection of historic nautical devices.
