This exclusive and amazing item is a collectors walking stick, almost a museum piece made in England circa 1910. Very elegant and original, the stick contains a hidden foldable gauge designed to measure horses cruppers. This quality turns it into a piece that will delight to lovers of first-class items, functional and smart. The stick is in good condition and is beautifully manufactured, with parts of different woods and adorned with an engraved solid silver piece. The sticks handle is made of ebony-finished wood, with a deep black color that makes a discreet contrast with the golden brown tone that boasts the rest of the piece. This black finish is slightly worn due to the trace of time and use, but nevertheless it shows off a quite good general condition. The handle is connected to an inner metal structure folded into the hollow pole. This structure is actually a metal gauge composed of three pieces: the vertical ruler with a scale designed to measure the animals cruppers and two horizontal pieces that mark the top and bottom of each crupper. The hollow pole where the gauge hides is made of hemp wood and preserves its original finish, quite enhanced by the patina of time. At its top, just in the part where this pole joins the handle we can see an engraved solid silver piece. It bears no hallmarks but it is undoubtedly beautiful. The piece is cylindrical in shape and boasts a decoration that depicts a riding scene. It also bears a flat oval shield, probably designed to contain the owners engraved initials. Trimming the sticks end we can see a metal ferrule that reinforces it.This magnificent walking stick with hidden gauge is a real collectors piece, rare and exclusive. This article is worthy of a good museum of arts and crafts.Measurements: Length: 980 mm/38.5 in.
