Magnificent Antique Safe in Very Good Condition. France, 19th Century

Beautiful safe made in France in the 19th century, in extremely good condition. This piece is completely original from the time, being also as attractive as antique. It boasts a solid and aristocratic design and its sturdiness lets its owner use it to store valuable items under lock and key. As well as being a functional piece, it is also quite decorative because of the beauty of the materials it is made of and the decorative details that embellish it. The safe has been fully restored, always respecting the materials ancient age and the original look of the piece. It is compose of a series of enameled metal plates, attached by solid iron profiles and components that provide the safe with sturdiness. The profiles are riveted with big hemispherical nails, and this detail turns the safe into a medieval-style piece. The metal plates are embellished with a shiny black-enameled finish that makes a nice contrast with the distressed iron the reinforcements are made of. The safes lid preserves the original handle, also made of iron and in quite good condition. At the front side we can see the lock that can be operated with the accompanying key. Beside it, in the center of the plate there is an embossed iron detail shaped like a shield supported by a lion and a unicorn, the beasts that are usually depicted with the United Kingdom coat of arms. We can also see the motto of the British Monarchy: Dieu et Mon Droit (God and My Right). Nevertheless, instead of the coats of arms of the nations that make up the Kingdom (Scotland, England and Northern Ireland), the shield is engraved with an embossed inscription that reads BAUCHE BREVETÉ S.G.D.G, relative to the patented locking system.
