These stunning cast-iron handcuffs make up a rare and special item because of their ancient age and good condition. The handcuffs date from the early 19th century (circa 1800) and are quite well preserved. All their component parts are original and so is the key that comes with them. They work fine and can be easily opened and closed. With their solid and reliable design, they boast an impressive aesthetic that turns them into a very interesting piece to be exhibited in a showcase or a collection of curious antiques. The handcuffs are semicircular, shaped like a stirrup. The curved part is linked to a chain that connects both parts. The open outer side of each handcuff is closed by a conic and hollow piece with a threaded hole. The cast-iron key must be inserted in this hole: when turned, the handcuffs get automatically closed and press firmly the bearers wrist. This closure system works perfectly. Both the handcuffs and the key bear the number 34 engraved in the metal. In order to link both handcuffs, each one has a protruding drilled plate connected to an iron ring. Each ring is linked to a carabiner-shaped iron piece, welded and trimmed in a secure and reliable way. The iron is in good condition, with just some traces of rust that mean no danger for its integrity: instead, they provide it with an antique and attractive patina that enhances the aesthetical interest of this piece. The metal surface shows the marks of the blacksmiths work, creating a full character item. These striking antique handcuffs will draw anyones attention as a part of a good collection or exhibited by themselves. Measurements: Width: 2.7 in/7 cm. Length: 12.2 in/26 cm.
