The coffee grinder that we can see in these images is a rare and interesting piece. It is quite big in size and was probably used in a shop or a store. Its dimensions make it difficult to believe that it was intended for domestic use. The grinder is in quite good condition and its simple mechanism works perfectly: it can still be used to grind coffee as it was a long time ago. It is also a very decorative and antique piece, dating from the early 20th century. The grinder is made of cast iron and preserves all its original component parts. The lower part of the iron body contains a solid beech wooden drawer designed to collect the coffee once ground. The drawer is in good condition and still boasts the original protecting finish. The cranks handle is made of the same type of wood. The iron mechanism is quite attractive, being composed of solid and delicate piece that engage perfectly with each other. The grinding system works well and the pieces move softly and precisely. The top of the grinder is a deposit composed of two hemispheres, inside of which the coffee beans are placed. This deposit stands on top of the lower part or the grinder (the one that contains the wooden drawer) and is strongly wielded to it. The four corners of this lower iron body bear four embossed symbols: the letters P, D and B and the number 1.The letters P and D correspond to the German name Peter Dienef. Last but not least, the grinders inner mechanism is in good condition and works fine. Big in size and with a great industrial look, this antique coffee grinder will be the starring piece of a country kitchen or a good collection. Measurements: Width: 12.2 in/31 cm.
