This great scale is a postal instrument designed to weigh letters, envelopes and small parcels. It comes from Germany and was made in the 1950s, being in very good condition and working order. The scale is made of golden brass and stands on a solid oak wooden base with dove chest edges and a nice satin finish. The base shows a series of blind holes at the front, drilled in the wood to store the brass weigh set that comes with the scale. The set is complete: the pieces are in perfect condition and bear their corresponding weigh engraved in the metal. The beam shows the engraved word WESTA, the brand name. At the base, just between the scale and the weigh set we can see an embedded brass medal with an embossed motive depicting a coat of arms and the inscription GARDE KÖLSCH. It is the name of a beer distilled by Privatbrauerei Gaffel Becker & Co., a brewery in Cologne, Germany. This detail probably indicates that the scale belonged to the beer company. In amazing condition and ready to use, this fine postal scale is a very attractive piece and an original antique. Measurements: Width: 8.27 in / 21 cm. Height: 3.15 in / 10 cm.
