Elegant Pair of Antique Bronze Candlesticks. France, XIX Century

Set of two antique bronze chandeliers made in France in the 20th century and in amazing condition. The chandeliers boast a stylized design, quite simple and elegant, and are the perfect accessory to decorate a sideboard, a dining table or a mantelpiece. They are quite remarkable for their sobriety, following the beautiful Empire style that prevailed in those times. The chandeliers are very well preserved and can be used with no problem whatsoever. Each piece has a central amphora-shaped body, with a convex top part that narrows towards the bottom end. This amphora stands on a long and slim piece, supported in its turn by an ampler bronze circle that constitutes the chandeliers base. There are three legs scattered around this circular base, and their top end also support the amphora stated before. Under each chandelier we can see three small legs that lift them and provide them with lightness. This design looks stable and decorative, and quite original too. The circular base is decorated with an engraved fringe composed of linked ovals. The legs are also embellished with engraved diagonal parallel lines, while the central amphora stands out for the delicate embossed flower garlands that decorate its top part. The garlands hang from three rams heads, performed in a surprisingly realistic way. Over each amphora there is a stylized and slim stem with a candle holder on its top end. These pieces are shaped like plant pots and bear a fine decoration of engraved ivy leaves.
