Impressive decanter of the Marquis de Bellefond, one of the three personal orderlies of Napoleon III.

This stunning piece is a small liquor cabinet made in the era of Napoleon III a very special article full of history and beauty. It is made of ebony-like finished wood and has survived to our days in an amazing condition. It preserves the original Baccarat crystal set, complete and with no cracks or missing parts. The liquor cabinet was made in France circa 1870; it belonged to the Marquis of Bellefond, whose coat of arms is painted on the lid. The marquis was one of the three ushers at the service of king Napoleon III, and it is very likely that the sovereign would drink occasionally from any of these cups; so this is a very special article worthy of a history museum. The cabinet boasts a beautiful curve and elongated shape, with two front doors and abatable lid. The ebony-like finish that covers the wood inside and outside has been fully restored so now it looks shiny and bright. The piece stands on four decorative ormolu legs; the lid is decorated with details made of this same metal too. As stated before, the lid is adorned with the coat of arms of the Marquis of Bellefond. When the lid is open, the coat of arms can be seen from behind the cabinet: while the server is preparing the drinks, the guests can see the coat of arms in the right position. This coat of arms is flanked by a rampant lion and a horse; around them we can see a lovely motive composed of silvery and golden flowers, leaves and volutes. Inside the cabinet we find the wonderful Baccarat crystal set, carved by hand and supported by a net of ormolu bronze elements. The set is as impressive as historic, a really beautiful piece with a great interest for any good collector.
