This lovely game box decorated with burl wood veneer is an antique piece from the era of Napoleon III. It was made in France circa 1870 and boasts a wonderful condition. The wood it is made of has been carefully restored, both inside and outside, and nowadays it looks as beautiful as when it was originally made. The box contains various compartments made of different hardwoods, all of them original and quite well preserved. They can be removed and disposed in different order. The edges of the box and the lid are covered by a black shiny finish that makes a nice contrast with the reddish wood. The box and the lid are outside covered by burl wood veneer, very well preserved and boasting an impressive display of shades and colors. The lid is also decorated with a brass edge, shiny and bright. In the center we can see a fine boulle marquetry motive made od brass. The marquetry work is in good condition and preserves all its original pieces, except a very tiny fault. The lid shows two golden rectangles that frame the decoration and provide it with depth. This classy piece preserves the original lock and key in perfect working order. The box has been inside and outside covered with a great French-polish finish whose soft touch and deep glow enhance the beauty of the different kinds of woods. The box is in an almost mint condition, being perfect to store game pieces and accessories, but also to be used as a jewel box or to keep small treasures.
