This attractive device is a metronome made in France in the early 20th century. The box is made of solid wood and boasts the typical pyramid-like shape of these items; the inner movement is made of metal. It works perfectly and keeps all its original component parts. Attached to the front lid we can see a diamond-shaped metal plate with the following inscription: MAËLZEL PACKET 1815-1846 FABRICANT METRONOME FRANCE. Johan Maëlzel was the inventor of the metronome, a German engineer that became friend of Beethoven and was very popular for his mechanical designs. In this case, the plate is probably a reproduction as this metronome was made years after this man died. Nevertheless it is a great article in perfect working order, as decorative as functional. Any lover of music and special pieces will appreciate this antique metronomes beauty.
