Elegant glove box made in France circa 1870 (during the reign of Napoleon III) and in excellent condition. The box is made of solid wood, outside covered by a fine blur wood veneer. The lid is decorated with marquetry work; we can see a fine detail, complete and made of different rich materials. This piece has been professionally restored so it preserves it charm and antique look while enhancing the beauty of the materials it is made of. It is a very special object, perfect to be used as jewel box or vanity box. The boxs sides show off the blur wood in all its glory, with its fine reddish brown color and the whimsical shapes typical of this material. The lid is covered by the same veneer, but it is also decorated with a fine marquetry work motive. We can see a central detail made of golden brass, mother-of-pearl and lightwood, surrounded by black stucco. The edge is adorned with a fringe in a similar style and materials. It is a Boulle-style marquetry decoration inspired in the work of André-Charles Boylle, a marquetry master who lived between the 17th and 18th centuries. It outside the box looks amazingly beautiful, inside it also draws our attention because of its rich lining and impressive condition. It is covered by bright red satin, with the lid and the bottom covered by padded upholstery. The lining is wonderfully preserved, with all the original buttons and looking almost impeccable. The edges of the box and the lid are lacquered in black: the combination of the warm color of the wood, the dark lacquer and the vibrant red upholstery create a beautiful and charismatic piece. This delicate French box will delight any stylish and trendy lady. It is surely a wonderful gift. Measurements: Width: 12.5 in / 32 cm. Height: 6.2 in / 16 cm.
