The chest is made of solid mahogany wood and has survived to our days in very good condition. The inside space is divided by small planks in order to store the charts in perfect order. Its design and qualities make it possible to use it as a perfect drinks cabinet to store wine or liquer bottles. The chest is made of mahogany wood, known for its stability against temperature changes and its good resistance against wet conditions. For these reasons, this wood was quite appreciated in the manufacture of ship furniture pieces and articles. The woods chest boasts the classic reddish color of this specie and its delicate flame-shaped veneer that can be clearly appreciated in the lid, the rear and the sides. The planks that divide the inner space are also made of mahogany. The wood preserves the original finish, warm and satin. The lock and key are also the original ones and are in perfect working order. The chest also keeps the original side handles, made of metal. These pieces stand out for their attractive patina, created by the trace of time and the many sea crossings in which this chest surely took part.
