This amazing piece is an antique bookrest made of hand-carved solid walnut wood. The bookrest shows a neogothic style and was made in France in the late 19th century, being in excellent condition. Its delicate design is quite remarkable: it is delicate and simple and boasts a striking beauty. As stated before, the bookrests decoration is neogothic in style and is composed of carved shapes that create open filigree forms, providing the design with lightness. The shapes and forms reproduce classic gothic pointed arches and are repeated in different parts, creating a balanced decoration. The bookrest is composed of a solid rectangular base that stands on four stylized legs. The legs show a tapered shape, narrower at the bottom. The wood is delicately turned and carved: the legs depict shapes covered by closed leaves similar to a blossom. Each shape stands on a small ball that acts as its base. Over the legs, the bookrests rectangular base is decorated with blind pointed windows at the corners and open longitudinal open details of the same style. The top part of the bookrest is mobile and is connected to the base by hinges. This piece can be lifted in order to rest the book on it. Once lifted, the user can adjust its inclination by fitting the sticks end into the gaps of the central wooden bar. This foldable piece shows the same filigree decoration as the base, and is trimmed by a lovely front wooden piece designed to support the book. The beautiful walnut wood this bookrest is made of boasts a great golden brown color and is embellished by a fine French-polish finish that enhances its tone and veneer. This gorgeous wooden bookrest is a stunning and charming piece. It will be the perfect stand to show off the most ancient and valuable books. Measurements (lifted): Width: 13 in / 35 cm.
