These games are generically known as bagatelle, a French word meaning trifle or little nothing. Bagatelles are small indoor games which derive from the classic billiard. They are usually made of wood, with wooden obstacles and holes all over their surface. The bagatelles were highly popular in Europe in the late 19th century. The game that we can see in the images is known as Japanese billiard: instead of wooden obstacles that fall when the balls impact them, it has fixed metal pins. This model eventually led to the development of the famous pinball machines. The games wooden structure is longitudinal and rectangular in shape. To the left of the box there is a device with a handle and a string that sends the balls upwards so they can fall between the metal pins. The game is quite easy the brass holes are numbered with different scores, just like the central bell with the higher score of all. Depending on where the marble falls and if it touches the bell or not the player will obtain his or her score. The printed numbers are well preserved and legible, while the brass pieces are in quite good condition. Every lover of classic indoor games and original antiques will appreciate the value and charm of this beautiful game of marbles. Measurements: Length: 27.9 in / 71 cm. Height: 5.1 in / 13 cm
