Amazing antique world globe in very good condition, with mahogany-colored wooden stand and silvery metal axe. The globes surface is in great condition, with the maps and the inscriptions clearly visible and legible. It was manufactured in Germany between the two World Wars (circa 1925), so Europe looks quite different from now although the Austro-Hungarian Empire does not exist any longer, there are still a lot of long-vanished colonies and places. The globe bears a printed diamond-shaped mark with the articles name: COLUMBUS-ERDGLOBUS. Columbus-Verlag GmbH is a company founded in 1909 that manufactures, publishes and exports world globes. Its founder, Paul Oestergaard, created the firm in Berling to make a globe for every home. The quality of their products was so high that Mr. Kevin Allen, chief of the map services of the National Geographic Society, said that they were the best globes weve ever known! Currently the company is still active and is a world benchmark in the field. The globe shows a complex net of lines, names and countries, crossed by the parallels and meridians and providing a lot of information. It is supported by a metal axis with a graduated arc, supported in time by a beech-wooden stand with a dark mahogany finish. The circular base has a small inlaid compass, in good condition and in working order. In general, this globe is a beautiful and decorative item whose information may be obsolete, but is still a fascinating testimony of the territorial divisions of the first half of the 20th century on a worldly level. As attractive as ancient, this striking world globe is perfect to decorate a great library or a sober study desk.Measurements: Width: 12.5 in / 32 cm.
