Antique and complete weight set coming from France and dated circa 1900. The set preserves all its pieces in the original solid wooden stand. Even the lightest and tiniest pieces are preserved although these elements usually disappear with the trace of time. The weights are made of bronze and bear an engraved inscription each with the weigh in grams, written in French. The biggest and heaviest one weighs 1 kilogram and the rest weigh 500 grams, 200 grams and so on. At the top of the weights we can see some marks stamped on the metal surface. These hallmarks were created by the trade inspectors who formerly used to visit shops where weighing scales were commonly used. If the weights were right, each year the inspector would put his mark in the weights to guarantee the businesss good practice. The weights that we can see in the photographs bear different hallmarks, one with the initials CT. The stand where the weights can be neatly stored is made of solid beech wood. It remains in really good condition and is an elegant piece, rectangular in shape and with the top edge delicately milled. The wood boasts a nice light pink-brown shade and shows off the beechs subtle veneer. The wooden surface bears a lovely polished satin finish that makes the bronze weights luster stand out. Antique and original, this complete bronze weight set will shine in a showcase full with the most exclusive pieces. Measurements: Width: 8.2 in / 21 cm. Height: 2.3 in / 6 cm. Depth: 3.1 in / 8 cm.
