Jones Sewing Machine, England, Circa 1900-1915. In superb condition and working order. The prestigious English firm Jones of Manchester manufactured this model of sewing machine between the years 1900 and 1915. The Jones factory began its industrial activity only six years after the famous Singer, that is, in 1857. It was one of the most popular machines in the UK because of its robustness and reliability and because it was the first to incorporate forward and reverse stitching. Of classic decorative beauty, this early 20th century rarity is a so-called Spool Model, resembling those made in the United States in the late 19th century, such as the Wheeler & Wilson. Its presence is important both for its volume and for the richness of its decoration painted in amber and reddish tones on a general black base. As it is usual in this type of pieces, the drawn figures represent vegetal elements. The drawings are well preserved except in the stitching area, with the logical loss of liveliness due to rubbing and the passing of the years, which gives it that special charm of the antique, the practical and the genuine in unison. The base and the cover of the case are made of walnut wood, showing signs of use but totally firm in its construction. The internal machinery is in a very good state of preservation. Dimensions: 32 cm (height), 56 cm (width), 26,5 cm (depth).
