Precious Oil Lamp in Bronze and Porcelain. S. XIX. Composed of a decorative bronze base with poly-lobed contour supported by four decorative legs of small size. The lower cylindrical plate in porcelain with a beautiful decoration painted in a very delicate way is undoubtedly outstanding. There is a central medallion in white with a plump cherub on a bed of flowers holding a dove in his hands in the center, and a golden vegetal border on a sky blue background. In the central part of the piece stands out the spectacular sculpture in round bulk of a stylized putti with a floral crown that holds on his head the vessel containing the oil. The oil cistern is made of molded glass and colored in original 19th century blue. The burner is of simple workmanship and is signed with the initials of the manufacturer HS; Hugo Schneider. The lamp is very well preserved. Both the foot and the lampshade are in a magnificent condition and it is made with a very remarkable delicate workmanship. Before electricity was part of people's normal life, houses were illuminated with all kinds of lamps, powered by oil, petroleum. This type of functional pieces were more or less elegant, sophisticated or simple, depending on the use they were going to be given, and what place they were going to occupy. This type of objects are usually quite used because they are very functional pieces, but sometimes we find pieces like this one in a perfect condition. A magnificent piece for any collection or to decorate a very special corner. Measures: 59 cm (total height).
